Traditional Sense

In the traditional sense, that doesn’t make sense

I can write a rhyme
                   in time
                   with lime
                   or thyme
                   tastes fine
       with wine
                   that’s mine

But in the traditional sense
   that doesn’t make much sense

Or I can link a theme
                      garden
                      nature
                      soil
                      rain
                      worms
                      weeds
                      vegies

But in the traditional sense
   that doesn’t make much sense

So should I write a verse
    which might be obscure
              or perverse
              or worse
Or just stick to prose
   meandering where it wants
              where it goes
              even knows
                             the destination…

Whoops, now I’ve confused the two
              didn’t you?

And in the traditional sense
   that doesn’t make much sense

Influence

Having influence
Is a lovely thing
As long as
You
Don’t allow
The influence you have
To influence
The person you are

It is good for us to be here

Here
In the present moment

Here
With the breeze gently blowing
Sun warming, birds calling

To each other
And
To me

Here
In the present moment

Here
As the tree grows before my very eyes
Singing praise

To God
And involving
Me

Here
In the present moment

Here
How good it is to be alive
Gardening done, books beckoning

Peaceful reflections
Possible as the day
Winds down

Here
In the present moment

A Blessing

Know you are blessed; each in your own way;
With your unique gifts; with your unique knowledge

Know you are blessed; in every interaction;
With students; with colleagues; with parents

Know you are blessed; in every responsibility;
As you teach, take yard duty, prepare, study

Know you are blessed; God is with you;
God goes before you and behind you;

Know you are blessed; God within you;
God beside you; God in your actions and words

Know you are blessed; God the Father
God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
Be with you and bless you.

Wine

Wine
inclines
to blind

if drunk

to excess
not success
or progress
